STATEMENT by Culinary Union Secretary-Treasurer Ted Pappageorge regarding contract protections for Culinary Union members:
All Culinary Union members employed on the Las Vegas Strip and in Downtown Las Vegas are protected by strong union contracts.
Casino resorts are dynamic workplaces and the companies are constantly making changes, that’s why strong Culinary Union contracts are necessary and in place to protect workers.
Union contracts include clear language concerning job security, layoffs, recall rights, seniority protections, training opportunities, promotional bids, and job placement. Culinary Union members have up to 36 months of recall rights, access to free job training, and priority placement into available positions within their property.
Culinary Union remains committed to ensuring that workers’ rights are respected, their jobs are protected, and the union contract is fully enforced.

Culinary Workers Union Local 226 and Bartenders Union Local 165, Nevada affiliates of UNITE HERE, represent 60,000 workers in Las Vegas and Reno, including at most of the casino resorts on the Las Vegas Strip and in Downtown Las Vegas. UNITE HERE represents 300,000 workers in gaming, hotel, and food service industries in North America.
The Culinary Union, through the Culinary Health Fund, is one of the largest healthcare consumers in the state. Culinary Union members work as: Guest room attendants, cocktail and food servers, porters, bellmen, cooks, bartenders, laundry, and kitchen workers. The Culinary Union has been fighting and winning for working families in Nevada for 90 years.
