STATEMENT by Culinary Union Secretary-Treasurer Ted Pappageorge regarding No Taxes on Tips:
Following the release of the U.S. Treasury’s official list of jobs eligible for No Taxes on Tips deduction, the Culinary Union issued the following statement.
“If the regulations are implemented correctly, the “No Tax on Tips” deduction from the Big Ugly Bill can provide some relief for tip earners in Las Vegas and Culinary Union will push the U.S. Treasury hard to fix key problems:
*It doesn’t currently cover automatic gratuities for large parties or buyouts, which leaves workers shortchanged.
*The 100% marriage penalty needs to be eliminated.
*Tax breaks for worker are temporary, while billionaires’ windfall tax cuts are permanent and that’s a real slap in the face to workers.
Culinary Union will closely monitor as the U.S. Treasury develops regulations for the new tax policy to make sure it benefits working-class taxpayers as promised.”
