Congressman Steven Horsford is reintroducing the Tipped Income Protect and Support Act, known as the TIPS Act, which aims to eliminate taxes on tips.
Horsford, joined by members of the Culinary Union, detailed the bill's objectives at a press conference on Thursday.
"My bill does two things," Horsford said. "It ensures that tipped workers are not taxed on their tips and it eliminates the sub-minimum wage for tipped employees."
Ted Pappageorge, Secretary-Treasurer for the Culinary Union, expressed strong support for the legislation.
"We have been at this for a long time, and we are gonna fight," Pappageorge said.
