Horsford, who brought Culinary Union Local 226 member Yolanda Garcia as his guest, also has set forward a plan to end taxation on workers’ tips with his Tipped Income Protection and Support (TIPS) Act. His legislation calls to eliminate the subminimum wage of $2.13 per hour and would create a salary cap for the tax break.

“This is about the dignity of work,” Horsford said. “This is about raising the wages of workers, and it’s about ensuring that there are safeguards in place so that the ultrarich, so that big corporations and employers can’t exploit workers or our tax code.”
